Man without a sense of the Absolute is a man that is bewildered and

distraught amongst countless relativities. In a world where there is no

Sacred, everything is profane. In a profane world, profanity is

indistinguishable from true and noble speech worthy of man and his divine

origins. Without such distinctions, man is free to bark everything and

anything that comes out of his mouth. Not realizing that the very freedom

of will that he uses to express his profanity is only made possible by the

existence of the sacred and supreme will of his Creator. Hence the

profound statement of Meister Eckhart, “the more he blasphemes, the

more he praises God ” rings true in our day more than in any other.

But the final word must be from the Master of Eckhart - Jesus - upon

whom be peace, who said:- 

 

“Woe to the world because of scandals. For it must needs be that scandals come: but nevertheless woe to that man by whom the scandal cometh.” (Matthew 18:7)

What IS ABSOLUTELY required IS -

"A new form of agreement that transcends
 the horizontal left/right continuum"

The goal of ICE's proposed synthesis platform is to articulate a fresh political position that moves in a "vertical" dimension above the current state of paralysis, transcending the horizontal continuum of left and right, where politics are perceived within a simplistic "winning or losing" frame of reference. To accomplish this goal ICE's synthesis platform must incorporate the essential strengths of each of the major perspectives that currently exist within the American body politic. This requires the ability to see and understand the healthy and thus enduringly necessary aspects of America’s conflicting political positions.

The political “synthesis” that ICE envisions must go beyond merely showing respect for each position; IT IS NOT a matter of simply "brokering policy compromises between political tribes."

Rather, the synthesis platform must demonstrate a previously unconsidered perspective that effectively transcends the current conflict by better integrating and harmonizing the fundamental truths of each ideological camp.

Over the course of the past half century since its publication, this prophetic statement has turned out to be true, as evolution has become a defining framework in which we are beginning to understand virtually everything - from biology and technology to the interior dimensions of reality like our psychology, cultural world-views, and even spirituality.

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the notion that the evolutionary process is ultimately driven by a spiritual impulse is continuing to gain traction, with a growing number of progressive philosophers, scientists, and mystics exploring its implications.

To many, it is simply a compelling philosophy, uniting the revelations of science and spirituality in a way that no other theory can. But others, like Aurobindo before them, are beginning to reach beyond a theoretical discussion to wonder: What might human life and culture look like if we fully took to heart the reality of this view?

Freed from the mythic dogmatisms of premodern religion, transcending the materialistic biases of modern scientific thought, and liberated from the narcissistic self-absorptions of postmodernity, what kind of new world could human beings aligned with the trajectory of a spiritually evolving cosmos actually create?
