The Treasure, Unveiled!

THIS is a composition of the Platonic solids, the five polyhedra whose faces are all identical. They're fundamental to understanding order and symmetry in 3D space, and also dripping with golden ratios."

“They're arranged in three concentric spherical shells. The outer hull, the most complex, is the dodecahedron (bronze) and icosahedron (silver). The solids are in dual position, showing that they have the same symmetry, and sized so their vertices all lie on the same sphere.  The second hull is the cube (bronze) and octahedron (silver), arranged likewise.  And the innermost is two tetrahedra, one in each metal, showing that this four-sided solid is self-dual.  This makes it twice as excellent as any other Platonic solid.”

Bridget Riley is about the changes - progressive, sometimes abrupt, sometimes apparently disastrous - that can take place in a given situation.

The situation is presented in the simplest possible terms

John Russell - Sunday Times - September 1963

One of the most distinctive characteristics of Bridget Riley's art is that it "insists" with such concentration that it changes sensory response into something else.

The experience which Riley offers is closely related to the expression of emotion or, more exactly, to the creation of visual analogues for sharply particularized states of

The very intensity of the assault which her painting makes on the eye drives it, as it were, past the point at which it is merely a matter of optical effect.

It becomes acute physical sensation, apprehended kinesthetically as mental tension or mental release, anxiety or exhileration, heightened self-awareness or heightened awareness of unfamiliar or even alien states of being.

The Sacrament of the Last Supper by Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is painted inside a golden rectangle.

Golden proportions were used for positioning the figures. Part of an enormous dodecahedron floats above     the table.

The polyhedron consists of 12 regular pentagons and has fundamental golden connections.

At the age of six I wanted to be a cook. At seven I wanted to be Napoleon.

And my ambition has been growing steadily ever since.“  - Salvador Dali

[IT] IS our contention that the antipathy between word-based and visuospatial modes of thought has had damaging effects on the development and use of visual cognitive skills which are an essential element in the human brain's capacity to change response patterns - to create.

There are only 5 possible shapes in the universe of creation that Pythagoras defined as being a Platonic Solid.

They had to obey the following 3 conditions:

1 - The shape must fit inside of a sphere ie: the all the corners or vertices are touching the inside of the sphere.
2 - The shape must have all its faces or polygons the same (eg, triangles or squares or pentagons or hexagons etc) thus all their angles are the same.
3 - The shape must have every edge length being the same.

The 5 shapes are:
1 - Tetrahedron (4 triangles, 6 vertices, 6 edges)
2 - Cube (6 squares, 8 vertices, 12 edges)
3 - Octahedron (8 Triangles, 6 vertices, 12 edges)
4 - Icosahedron (20 triangles, 30 vertices, 20 edges
5 - Dodecahedron (12 Pentagons, 20 vertices, 30 edges)

These five Platonic Solids exist also in the biological world. They exist as single celled planktons called Radiolaria, which when dying leave an exo-skeleton in the precise shape of these 5 Solids.
