THE RADIANT CITY ...

 by LE CORBUSIER was his own interpretative perspective of a solution to

 provide an organism capable of housing the works of man in what was

 seen as a machine-age society - in juxtaposition to Buckminster Fuller's

 concept of Geodesic Domes and his own plan for OLD MAN RIVER CITY. 

It was during the building of a model of a Vickers Wellington, as a teenager,

which first introduced me to the geodesic method of construction and I

suppose that's where the seed of an idea was planted  for the eventual

creation of my 3 DIMENSIONAL MODEL. That seed was then nurtured

visually as a result of researching the juxtaposition of Leonardo da Vinci's

Vitruvian Man with Le Corbusier's MODULOR concept, whilst studying Art

at A Level GCE; and further refined by a mathematical understanding of the

works of Leonardo Fibonacci, as well as Richard Feynman's diagrammatical

representations of EINSTEIN's space/time/quantum theories; as a result my

'connessione ' with my father's own connection with the NATURE of his

allotment, where he grew sunflowers, which he had presumably first

experienced during the war in Italy, where he had already struck up friendships

with those who were to be the harbingers of plastic injection moulding for the

manufacture of classics such as the PANTON CHAIR. 

It was, as a Christmas Present in 1974, that Linnie gave me a copy of 

THE RADIANT CITY, following our return with Nicola, from our time

living on the mainland of the continent of Europe.

   Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, Sir Howard Robertson, et al. with 

   Harrison and Abramovitz; comprised the T.E.A.M. who were

   responsible for bringing to completion, the building of the

   Headquarters of the United Nations in New York in 1953.

  Completed in 1931, Villa Savoye is one of the most important

  houses of the 20th century. A key building in the development

  of the International  Style of Modernism, it is one of the only

  houses in France to have been declared a national monument

  during the architect's lifetime.

The Lawn Road Flats – also know as the Isokon Building – was
 the creation of Jack & Molly Pritchard and architect Wells Coates. Opening on 9th July 1934, it was not only the first modernist block of flats in Britain, but also the home of notable émigrés, including Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer, designer of modernist furniture, and László Maholy-Nagy, head teacher of art at the Bauhaus school.
