which happened after Pope Francis arrived in Rio from Rome at the start of a week-long trip, raised serious questions about the security arrangements for the visit.

Brazilian authorities are said to be privately aghast at the Pope’s decision  to greet

crowds in an open-topped Mercedes jeep during his visit, rather than a glass-enclosed,

bullet-proof Pope-mobile. In keeping with the modest style that Francis has stamped on

the papacy, however, he carried his own hand luggage when he boarded the special 

Alitalia flight from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport to Rio de Janeiro early on Monday.

Before arriving, the Pope warned that the world risks losing an entire generation of

young people to unemployment.

The 76-year-old Jesuit Pope said the “culture of rejection” also extended to old people

and that there was a danger that the elderly were being thrown on the scrap heap of

society despite the experience they could offer. "We need to make an effort to bring

everyone into society, this is the sense I want to bring to this trip.”

The Pope, who succeeded Benedict XVI after his shock resignation in March, arrived

shortly before 8pm BST where he will spend a week in the country for World Youth Day

in the wake of mass protests there over economic inequalities.

It is the first official overseas visit of his four-month papacy and the first time since

his election in a secret conclave that he has returned to South America, the continent of

his birth. Despite a row over the costs of the trip, his visit has generated huge 

excitement in Brazil, which has the world’s largest Catholic population.

Pope Francis has called for a “culture of solidarity” to replace the

“selfishness and individualism” prevailing in modern society today.

Within Humanity’s Team we agree that we must create a global culture based on solidarity.

This was precisely the message that was shared with our Global Council on May 20th, 2010 

when we visited the United Nations to deliver over 50,000 signatures requesting that a

Global Oneness Day be established.  

Ambassador Anwarul Chowdhury, who received us said, “I believe that unless we have a sense of solidarity among the peoples of the world, all our efforts of peace and security will go nowhere.”

The key question is how do we create a culture of solidarity?  Do we create it through state enforced socialism or communism or do we create it voluntarily through awareness/awakening to that which we already are: connected with all of life; a part of the one presence that many quantum physicists reveal is the one true reality/ultimate reality.  

You probably know that many quantum physicists are writing about and speaking about the connection in all of life.  Related to this, many are sharing of our inherent solidarity and natural desire to collaborate, not compete.  What is perplexing is that this knowledge, this awareness, is very limited in the mainstream.  It is estimated that only 5-10% of the world’s population has awareness of our connection, our Oneness (and our solidarity).  

This is precisely why the United Nations requested that Humanity’s Team create a Global Oneness Day, to bring more focus and attention to our connection and Oneness.  Shortly after our visit in May, 2010 we created the first annual Global Oneness Day on October 24th, 2010 (we created Global Oneness Day on United Nations Day).  

We are not wise to create state enforced socialism or communism.  Forced change will never work. We must go down the path of awareness/understanding that voluntarily creates social responsibility, social reform and social justice.  When there is shared connection there is always shared responsibility and it is sustainable because is voluntarily chosen.

The Oneness Statement created by our Humanity’s Team Global Council speaks about the connection between Oneness and shared responsibility, Oneness is the energy of love that lies within and connects all of life, enabling us to recognize ourselves in everything. The universe is one being and we are its cells, all essential and responsible for the well-being of the whole.  

Pope Francis is calling for a culture of solidarity.  The United Nations is calling for a culture

of solidarity.  Many scientists are calling for a culture of solidarity.  Humanity’s Team and

our partner who is co-convening Global Oneness Day with us this year, the Association for

Global New Thought, are calling for a culture of solidarity ...

based on our connection and Oneness.

Pope Francis asked for forgiveness from six victims of clergy sexual abuse on Monday,

during the first such meeting since he became pontiff. “Before God and his people,

I express my sorrow for the sins and grave crimes of clerical sexual abuse committed

against you. And I humbly ask forgiveness,” the pope said during Mass with the victims.
