Symbolising the journey up the mountain.

View of Sri Pada [Adams Peak], Sri Lanka, (venerated by many religions) from the garden of my plantation managers' bungalow c.1964.

At a 40th Anniversary week-end get together of starting my Air Traffic Controller's training in Bournemouth - one of my colleagues and his wife said that they had just returned from a holiday in Sri Lanka - to which I replied something like "what a fascinating place full of the magic and history of spiritual development with its rich Buddhist heritage" - to which they both in unison said "NO we just went to see the elephants !!!" - needless to say any discussion of even the symbolism of the journey up the mountain let alone the journey itself  would have no doubt fallen on stoney ground.

Indeed! No doubt they did not allude to the mythical wisdom of elephants either :-) However, our purpose at any time in doing something has a basic spiritual purpose and in this case it was obviously not primary spiritual growth - perhaps just a precursor.
