LIVING LIFE ON A SPIRAL STAIRCASE ...

The spirals symbolic depth connects us to the

timeless fluid energy evolving order from chaos.

For the ancient Greeks. "chaos" was the empty void  that

existed before the creation of the world and civilisation.

In confronting the orders of chaos, of growth and stability, it would appear that we

are now coming face to face with something which is buried in the very foundations

of HOMO SAPIENS' existence, which would lead one to believe that learning to handle

complexity means learning to live more intuitively, because intuition is the key to

making significant changes in complex systemshelping them evolve and evolving

 with them.

The return of those objects originating from Northumbria and the historical context provided by all of the loans will illuminate the intricate craftsmanship and richness of the culture to be found in the royal court at Yeavering,” says Dr Ferguson. “The jewellery, ceramics, weaponry and art on display were sumptuous – truly a ‘golden age of Northumbria’.”

Further treasures include a pseudo Roman coin pendant, showing the connection the Anglo Saxons had with history and their Roman forebears, a sliver wrist clasp and a high-quality replica of the remarkable Franks Casket from the British Museum showing the quality and craftsmanship of the Northumbrian Golden Age.

The 8th century box is generally accepted as originating from the monasteries of Anglo Saxon Northumberland and features a whales’ bone decoration of narrative relief panels with figures and old English and runic inscriptions. These take in everything from Roman and Greek myth to Christianity – including Achilles, Romulus and Remus and the Adoration of the Magi.

“As the extraordinary discovery of Sutton Hoo unveiled the riches buried in death for the people of this time – the story of Yeavering, to be told at Ad Gefrin, reveals the riches found in life,” adds Dr Ferguson.

The Chart of sources for Arthurian legends was found in 1943 by David Jones [1895-1974] & thence Purchased by the Archive from the Anthony d’Offay Gallery in 1982.
