NEVER step down as monarch because
'abdication is a dirty word in the Palace'
Elizabeth’s uncle, Edward VIII, abdicated the throne in December 1936, less than a year into his reign. The constitutional crisis was sparked when Edward proposed to Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee he had fallen in love with. After Edward stood down, the Queen’s father, King George VI, became king despite having never anticipated that he would be monarch and making the then Princess Elizabeth heir to the throne at the age of 10.
Edward VIII actually thought that he was entitled to marry Wallis Warfield Simpson of the United States, when in effect he lost all entitlement to everything when he abdicated ...and quite frankly our present Government [IS] acting in no dissimilar manner by ignoring the democratic vote of the Peoples of Britain to LEAVE THE so-called EU.
