great cause…i think i saw that video or one like it a while ago…is that possible? or is this a new one? someone made the comment however that
they flew her on a jet and burned up alot of the atmosphere doing
it…cancels out her purpose for being there…it was brainstormed i think
that they could have sent the video to the conference from where she
lived and made a much bigger impact…of course, I could be totally off
base and be talking about an entirely different video all together…

either way, it is still a very good message…love in joy*

The video was of Severin's speech to the UN in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 ! …

IT just sounds even more approporiate 17 years later because homo sapiens is fast approaching the reality of both peak oil and climate change and the collective conscious of our species is awakening to the potential crisis.

… and had it NOT been for her “personal attendance then” I very much doubt that ANY of the action thus far embarked upon by the IPCC would have happened.

ALL the efforts @ www.considerUS.org are intended to repeat the influence of youth on the delegates who will be attending the climate summit in Copenhagen in December and I would go as far as saying that IF Obama doesn't attend that meeting to sign up to an agreement with China & India, then Colin Mason's 2030 SPIKE will quickly become a 2023 SPIKE and WE SHALL only then have
13 years left before the point of no return.

Any US Senator can similarly frustrate legislation by filibustering
(the term, engagingly, comes from the Spanish word for ”
pirate”).

Indeed, these days he or she does not even have to talk for ever, but can achieve the same effect by simply announcing the intention to do so.

The threat that hard-line climate-sceptic Republicans will do this is holding up the passage of a bill
introducing measures to reduce carbon emissions. And that, in turn, is
stalling international agreement on a treaty to combat global warming,
scheduled for Copenhagen next month, because the bargain cannot be
struck without the United States.”

OBAMA versus THE climate pirates

and …

EVEN IF global warming IS the problem, CARBON TRADING isn't the answer.

The following excerpt from a conversation between Sanjida O'Connell of the New Scientist & Ray Mears entitled We'll struggle to survive climate change
provides yet another non-scientific perspective to add to the debate

Do you worry about Earth's future?

The planet will be fine, whether we are is another matter. What's interesting is that the last time we faced climatic fluctuations as a species, we were hunter-gatherers and could up sticks and move. We
can't do that now, and we're only just realising that the result of a
static lifestyle is that you have to take greater care of the planet.
I'm not a natural worrier, it's more important to act in a positive way. Obviously we should be concerned - I've seen signs of global warming myself - but what concerns me more is global pollution.
That's a tremendous worry. How can we survive without clean air and
water? We're seeing an increased amount of illness and we haven't got
to the bottom of the causes. I suspect the answers will be commonplace
and linked to environmental conditions, so I think we should
concentrate our efforts as much on pollution as global warming.

How will humans cope with climate change?

I don't think most people will survive climate change. It will be a
disaster. We have to adapt to survive and take lessons from nature.

Adaptable things do better - the more specialised you become, the more marginal you are.

My biggest concern is that people are turning their backs on Darwinian
evolution. I don't think there should be a conflict between Darwinian
science and Christianity. If you believe in Darwin and evolution you
don't need to be faithless. Plenty of scientists would agree.

Yvo de Boer, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the official charged with bringing the Copenhagen talks to a successful conclusion, recently expressed his frustration at the conclusion of a negotiating session in Bangkok in October …

“In December, citizens everywhere in the world will have a right to know
exactly what their governments will do to prevent dangerous climate
change.
It is time now to step back from self-interest and let the common interest prevail
.”

In the context of the dilemma presented by these two juxtaposed reports

Geoffrey Lean has saidThe chances of failure are great. Time is desperately short. If the US bill cannot be passed by June, it may well never be, as mid-term elections then approach. If a deal is delayed much beyond Copenhagen – as Achim Steiner, the head of the UN Environment Programme said yesterday – the risk of
deadlock will be “extremely high
”.

WE CAN ONLY hope and pray that there IS LIFE yet in next month's climate talks in Copenhagen, particularly in view of the fact that the quantum mechanical machines of the evolutionary process of LIFE were alive and well and doing their stuff, as nature intended, millions of years before our species set foot on this planet and much well before the multitude of religious and/or scientific and/or philosophical interpretations of the existence of LIFE were EVER MOOTED.

AWAKE and SMELL the lavender, smell the lavender and awaken.

In the context of the fact that there is NO sign that the climate change slanging match is cooling off, Geoffry Lean has concluded that …

” Nothing that has been disclosed justifies the sceptics' excited claims that the correspondence reveals that the scientific basis of man-made
global warming to be a fraud. That would require the disclosure of a
global conspiracy by scientists with the complicity of governments,
which is a far-fetched scenario to say the least.”

& THIS piece from the New Scientist adds an all together new perspective …

” For millions of years, the brilliant white ice around the North Pole
has reflected the summer sunlight back into space, helping cool the
planet. As the ice turns sea dark and soaks up the sun, global warming
will really take off. Already the signs are there: in areas where the
sea ice has gone, summer temperatures are between 3 °C and 5 °C higher
than the average of the previous 20 years.

As the differences in temperature between the Arctic and the equator
lessen, the weather and rain patterns all over the northern hemisphere
are altering. As the new Arctic sea heats up, a pool of warm air is
spreading across the nearby lands. Shrubs and trees are creeping north
across the tundra. Dark vegetation soaks up more heat and the warming
gains pace. Methane is bubbling from tundra lakes and shallow shelf
seas as the permafrost at their bottoms thaws and micro-organisms
digest their carbon.

Elsewhere, the top layer of permafrost is rotting away. It contains enough carbon to more than double the carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere, taking us back to an era when temperatures
were more than 7 °C higher than they are now.

Of course, the carbon will not be released all at once. Instead, the Arctic will
favour a long, slow revenge, spread over hundreds of years. As well as
this, with the same painful slowness, the melting ice caps will make
sea levels rise perhaps a metre this century and then every century for
a thousand years. Once these changes really get going, they will be
unstoppable.

If these thoughts don't make people wake up, then we really are in deep trouble. As it happens, there's a tarot card for those who can't change, which
was just as unpopular as Death with my customers. It is number 15:
“blind abandonment to self-destructive materialism”.

Its symbol is the Devil.”

OBAMA WILL ATTEND the Copenhagen Climate Conference

HOORAY & ALL hail to Mr. President for accepting that there IS INDEED …

NO controversy about the fact that the Earth’s climate
has changed rapidly and violently in the past …

and that NOW IS THE time for ingenuity and political leadership !

” Even those who consider the science ambiguous must acknowledge that there is a moral dimension here; our children and theirs are entitled to a future that has not been blighted by our mistakes. If the consequences of inaction are
uncertain, yet possibly calamitous, then we should err on the side of
caution.”

BUT BE SURE
to read the diversity of perspectives propounded in the comments posted to this Daily Telegraph editorial, particularly in the
context of ANY POSSIBLE GLOBAL INTEGRAL [AQUAL] SOLUTION …

e.g. ”
Few would deny that moving away from finite resources would probably be
beneficial. It would also be wonderful to save our countryside from the
desecration of windmills, eco-housing and flooding caused by lack of
flood defences.

BUT Copenhagen is not a meeting of innovative people sent to solve this problem is it? It's a junket for the mad, bad, and deluded to side with liars and charlatans in thieving.

” On the ground in Copenhagen, I was also proud to see youth climate leaders making our voices heard among the other activists, delivering our uniquely urgent perspective
to the dialogues taking place. I spoke on a panel with Department of
Energy Representative David Sandelow and Former President of Cost Rica,
José María Figueres as a part of the Global Observatory effort here at
COP-15.

I made the strong declaration that for the world's youth, everything is on the line. We will be the ones who shoulder the repercussions of insufficient action now. We refuse to allow the smallness of politics to stand in the way of the
fair and globally-binding deal our planet so desperately needs, and
that our generation demands for survival
.

Just as we told White House officials last week, I was clear with Mr. Sandalow
that while I'm thrilled and proud to be representing the United States'
notably improved accomplishments, we simply cannot settle for gestures
in the right direction. We need solutions that follow science, and we need them now.”

” WE need good science that evaluates logic and evidence and we need to pick leaders who have enough wisdom to recognize the logic and the evidence and make good decisions.

Unfortunately wisdom is a very scarce commodity.

Very few people have it. Most of the time most elected officials don't have it and if you are stuck with people who don't have wisdom, then ALL the science in the
world won't save us.”

I increasingly think there are parallels between [the oil industry] and what we now know of the banking culture. It’s the systematic, cultural
burial of risk. Investment bankers did it with complex derivatives. And
I very firmly believe that the oil and gas industry culturally does the
same thing with the depletion of reserves

Bengeo made the following comment in response to THIS Telegraph Article ...

We have a "representative democracy" By definition politicians can do what they like as long as they think it is in your interest. The system allows them to decide what is good for you.

Conservative, Labour, Liberal, UKIP, BNP, Greens, they will all be able to break their promises once elected. Look at the system not the party. This is why we are still in the EU, no matter who gets in, because it is "good for us"

HOW RIGHT he IS and whenever we, as the voting people, challenge the politicians ACTIONS in this respect, don't they really like to rub our noses into the mud reminding us of this reality.

Gordon Brown our ex-Prime Minister has been the very worst example of this practice for as long as I can remember ...

DO what I tell you to DO boy - NOT what you have asked (voted) me to do for you !

Comment by Michael Grove on June 16, 2012 at 9:34

Gordon Brown -  the man who claimed "to have ended the cycle of boom and bust for the UK" - Didn't he also save the world as well from ALL of its financial woes? - is here again at the penultimate moment of the Euro Crisis expounding the fact that IF the G20 doesn't get its act together to help keep the Euro alive we shall all be faced with potential bailouts for France and Italy as well.

Surely its the founding members of the Euro project - Germany, France and Italy - who should now be realising that the wheels are falling off the charabanc because they chose not to fit tyres to the wheels in the first place.
